Equality and Diversity

Equality is about ‘creating a fairer society, where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential’. Diversity literally means difference.  when it is used as an addition to equality, it is about recognising individual as well as group differences, treating people as individuals and placing positive value on diversity in the community.

Equality Impact Assessment

An Equality Impact Assessment is simply a process that checks how an existing service or policy or a new service or policy affects groups of people covered by equalities legislation.  It looks at evidence as to whether the service or policy is discriminating (actual or perceived to be) against a particular group of people.
